Yeah, you saw that headline right. Razer acquires THX – the entire company itself.

If you didn’t know, THX is an american audio company that is founded more than 30 years ago by none other than George Lucas himself. The technology was debuted first at 1983 to accurately reproduce the soundtrack of Star Wars : Return of the Jedi, and was owned by Creative in year 2002 till 2012, then gone independent until today.

As of now, there are no transaction details that are disclosed. Also,  the deal has been closed earlier this month. While Razer acquires THX, Razer has agreed to keep THX as its own entity to do its own thing, while spinning it off as a new start up. All employees are retained, but with a “renewed focus on best-in-class audio-visual certification, optimization of audio experiences and development of core audio and visual IP”.

Out of all the companies that would acquire an audio company, I personally didn’t think Razer would do it. I really think the term “gaming audio” should be redefined, and I guess Razer is the one to do it now. I think with Razer spearheading a part of the VR revolution, THX can pimp out the audio quality too.
