Let’s take a look at Huawei’s brand new budget tablet, the MatePad T 10s. It’s priced at only RM999 and comes with a few features that increase the versatility of the tablet too. But, there are quite a lot of things that you should know about this tablet before making your purchase.
In this video here, we go through my personal user experience and what I felt while using this tablet for about 2 weeks or so.
A few things that I want to highlight here – firstly, the specs:
- 10.1-inch IPS LCD screen with 1920×1200 pixels
- HiSilicon Kirin 710A chipset
- 3GB RAM
- 64GB storage
- Expandable via microSD
- 5,100mAh battery
- Max 10W charging
And if you’re considering getting this tablet for gaming – don’t bother.
With that said, we can actually make calls with the MatePad T 10s since it has a SIM card slot as well. Nice – but Huawei also yanked out the entire MeeTime feature that we’ve talked about previously.
Now… I’m not sure why Huawei did this. From a user’s perspective, not having MeeTime on the MatePad T 10s just degraded the value of this tablet.
Netflix also works since the MatePad T 10s has Widevine L1 DRM. What’s weird is that Netflix doesn’t really work at full HD. Whenever I review anything related to Netflix, I’ll use the first episode of Rilakkuma. It’s a beautifully-made show with dioramas and it’s colorful. So when I saw pixelations on the MatePad T 10s, I know it’s not running in full HD.
And there is a dedicated eBook mode too. It desaturates the screen of all colors, makes it slightly yellow, and that’s the eBook mode. It actually emulates how an eBook reader with e-ink displays pretty well, but it’s still not as good as the Amazon Kindle.
In conclusion, the Huawei MatePad T 10s is still a good tablet if you’re looking for a tablet for media consumption and for eBook reading in one device. But considering that it’s using the Huawei AppGallery and no Google Mobile Services, getting media to consume is pretty difficult.
So, for the price of RM999, there are some other tablets in the market right now that is also priced at RM999, but equipped with the more mature Google Mobile Services included.
