Today, what we have here is something out of the ordinary. This is the JOI Book Touch 330 Pro. It’s an affordable convertible laptop. This is my first time using the words “affordable convertible laptop” together because I have never seen a device like this before.
So, today, let’s take a look at this JOI Book Touch 330 Pro and see how it is.
Firstly, we should manage our expectations. The JOI Book Touch 330 Pro is priced at only RM1,999 and it comes with an Intel Celeron N4120 processor, 4GB of RAM, and also 64GB of eMMC storage. But, don’t worry within the RM1,999 price you also get a SATA III-based 256GB M.2 SSD – and Windows 10 Pro is installed into this SSD instead of the 64GB eMMC storage.
If you ever want to upgrade the SSD yourself, do keep in mind that you’ll also void the warranty.
With the specs out of the way – this JOI Book Touch 330 Pro is a convertible laptop that is actually very suitable for a few use cases. It can be used for school work since its specs mean it can run Microsoft Office and also Microsoft Edge properly. I’m not talking about Google Chrome here because Google Chrome is a very heavy browser – which is common knowledge that we all have now.
And speaking of work, the JOI Book Touch 330 Pro has a pretty good keyboard with good travel distance and tactility. I find myself typing away using this keyboard and overall, no complaints on the keyboard at all. The arrow keys might need some time to get used to, but not a big deal. And thanks for not giving us half-height arrow keys.
As for the trackpad, it’s has a rather rough surface to which I am fine with. Overall tracking and palm rejection are fine but there’s always the option to use the touchscreen.
The JOI Book Touch 330 Pro – as the name suggests, has a 13.3-inch, 1080p IPS LCD touchscreen. It has a glossy display that is covered by a single sheet of glass – making it look a lot better than many other laptops with matte screens. The colors also looked fine to me and the touchscreen works as expected.
Oh – this JOI Book Touch 330 Pro is also suitable for note-taking and some simple sketches, writing, or drawings like diagrams or equations because it also comes bundled with the JOI Active Pen Pro 330. It’s an active stylus with 1,024 levels of pressure and again, works as expected.
Being a convertible laptop, I find myself drawing some random stuff or just watching Netflix sitting at the bedside. It’s a very chill thing to do, honestly.
And of course – the battery life. The JOI Book Touch 330 Pro comes with a 37Wh battery. And because it’s already using such a low-powered chip, this battery can last for quite a long time. With heavy browsing, while working on a Word document, I managed to get about 4-5 hours via a single charge.
And the charger is also very cute. I mean in a literal sense. The JOI Book Touch 330 Pro has a tiny 25W charger which is surprisingly low-powered for a laptop. But, it’s using a barrel jack.
While the JOI Book Touch 330 Pro does come with a USB-C alongside a microSD card and a 3.5mm audio jack. And with that said, we can’t charge the laptop via that USB-C port – but that included charger is already very tiny anyway.
And one thing I forgot to mention – the JOI Book Touch 330 Pro also comes with a fingerprint sensor at the top right corner of the deck. That’s unexpected for a laptop of this price.
So, for the price of RM1,999 – the JOI Book Touch 330 Pro is a pretty versatile laptop. Performance is decent enough to get basic schoolwork done, and the bundled active stylus also provides a versatile experience in or out of work.
