There are many choices nowadays when it comes to robot vacuums. One particularly interesting choice is the Roborock S7 MaxV. It comes with a whole slew of new, innovative features I am impressed that Roborock actually managed to think of such an idea, implement it into a product, and it is effective at the same time!

So, let me show you what this Roborock S7 MaxV can do.

Unboxing

Okay, so firstly – let’s talk about the unboxing. The version of the Roborock S7 MaxV that we have is the barebones version of the robot vacuum, that is why it comes in this simple box. We’ll explain about the optional accessory later.

The box does have quite a lot of useful information but I think if you’re buying this robot vacuum from online stores, it’ll be too late to actually look at the box to learn about the product because… you’ve already bought it.

Opening up the box reveals a big piece of plastic base. We’ll get into that later. Then we have the mop here alongside some user manual booklet. Of course, we also have the power cord here. It’s relatively long and it is also nice of Roborock to include a velcro strap to tidy up the cables.

After that, we’ll have to remove the entire top layer to reveal the robot vacuum itself and also the charging station. Remember to rip off the plastic so that the sensors work properly.

And that’s the whole unboxing experience. We don’t have any extra accessories or replacement parts in the box, unlike the Roborock S6 MaxV.

Looking at the robot vacuum

Now, the let’s take a look at the robot vacuum first. The shape is pretty typical for a robot vacuum but the design this time is rather interesting as it is entirely black and uses some sort of matte finish with some red embellishments at the side.

Maintenance

Let’s talk about the maintenance of the Roborock S7 MaxV. It’s actually one of the best. From the top, we can slot our finger at the front and pop up the hood to reveal the dustbin. The entire dustbin can be lifted out from the vacuum and this is where we can also replace the HEPA filter. However, as shown earlier, there are no extra HEPA filters in the box, so we’ll have to buy replacements ourselves.

It is also here that we pinch and pull out the water tank. It’s not the biggest water tank and there are also some holes at the center – which we will also talk about later.

The mop add-on is easy to just snap on at the near bottom of the robot vacuum. It’s not the easiest to do since it’s so near the floor, and it is especially annoying to remove the mop from the robot vacuum since it’s pinched by the two sides. Removing the mop cloth itself from the add-on is also simple as it has a rail to just slide in and out.

Then, at the bottom, we have one sweeper on the right side of the vacuum – which is sufficient and we’ll also talk about it later. We can also take out the sweeper by just unscrewing it – but we don’t really need to do it since there is a tiny little brush to prevent dust from getting into the axle.

As for the roller, we can just pop it off and the entire roller can be lifted. One of the new innovations this time is the “all-rubber” brush.

Roborock claims that it can resist hair tangles – which is why they didn’t even include that seatbelt cutter tool to cut tangled hair. The roller’s end caps can also be removed so that any hair curled around the axle can be removed easily.

Setup process

Then, I got everything set up and just went through the whole pairing process. I use the Mi Home – or Xiaomi Home as it is called now – because I have other products that are connected to that particular smart home system. The entire setup process of the Roborock S7 MaxV is very straightforward. Just add the device, connect it to the WiFi network, and done.

I took a look at all the features available and they are very standard overall when compared to the Roborock S6 MaxV. To have a look at all the features, watch our video at the top of this review.

Cleaning performance

Then, I saw something funky – the word “scrub”. Then I went hmmm… 🤔

Can this robot vacuum scrub the floor for me now? Turned out, it can! The Roborock S7 MaxV has a technology called VibraRise that can vibrate up to 3,000 times per minute at the mop area to remove stubborn stains.

So, I got excited. I made the Roborock S7 MaxV “learn” the layout of the house first before scrubbing. By the way, I placed the Roborock S7 MaxV on the second storey to literally clean my room since one of the features was “obstacle detection” and this robot vacuum also has a few cameras at the front.

After letting it run once to learn the map, I filled the water tank, installed the mop, set the scrub to and suction power to maximum for both, and let it go. I’m surprised that the Roborock S7 MaxV didn’t jump off the stairs or get tangled in any cables – because my room is like a warehouse + an office + a studio.

In the Xiaomi Home app, it also tells me that the robot vacuum stumbled upon a few obstacles and some obstacles were correctly identified and had a confidence meter too. Since I enabled the feature, it also took a picture to let me see what obstacle it was. Nice.

After the cleaning was done, the floor just felt amazing. It was squeaky clean – and I am impressed. I mean, the VibraRise scrubbing feature worked like a charm because I have never felt these tiles in my room be this squeaky before. Better yet, because of how these floor tiles are textured and have depth, the vibration can really agitate all of the dirt out.

Unfortunately though, the vibrations can’t clean grouts – as in the gap between the tiles. I wasn’t expecting it to clean the grouts, but I surely wish it does.

What about the accessory?

Now, let’s talk about the accessory. You see, the Roborock S7 MaxV has one accessory that I think is necessary. This accessory has 3 separate containers and it is called the “Empty Wash Fill Dock” – and I’m not joking, that is literally what the website says.

However, the name of this accessory is literally describing what it does. First, it empties the dustbin inside the robot vacuum into another larger container inside the dock. Second, it washes the mop of the Roborock S7 MaxV automatically. There is a brush under the mop, apparently. All the dirty water will be removed into another container in the dock. Third, it fills water tank of the Roborock S7 MaxV so that it has sufficient water for the next mopping session. Of course, this dock also chargers the Roborock S7 MaxV too. However, we do not have this “Empty Wash Fill Dock” with us – so perhaps a separate follow-up review when we get it.

Should you buy the Roborock S7 MaxV?

So, if you’re looking to buy one of the best robot vacuums available right now, then the Roborock S7 MaxV should be on your list. It has all of the right features that we actually use – like easy maintenance and also smart home ecosystem integration for easy remote control – plus the new VibraRise feature too. The price of this Roborock S7 MaxV is at RM3,399 – which is high, yes, but no other robot vacuum can offer this level of cleanliness.

If you also want to get the Roborock S7 MaxV alongside the “Empty Wash Fill Dock”, then you can get the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra when it is available. Technically it’s just the robot vacuum bundled with that super-advanced dock. No idea about the price since it’s not available locally yet.
