Introducing, something different from Samsung. We all know Samsung makes a lot of stuff to sell, but this one, in particular, caught my attention – and that is why we are reviewing it today. Well, I say reviewing but we’re mostly going through the features and the things that you can do with it while also sharing our thoughts and complaints regarding certain aspects of this product.

This is the Samsung Flip Pro. It is also available in more sizes. Just like TVs, it starts from 55-inch, then we have 65-inch, 75-inch, and also 85-inch versions. What we have here is the 55-inch version and I think it is already quite daunting to handle.

We also got the stand (STN-WM55RXEN) which is very well-designed. We did have some issue getting it out of the box but once we did, we just open up the legs and we can immediately use it.

3 different stuff to complete the set.

Once we got that done, we followed the user manual and install the display onto the stand. One of the most important step is to plug in the cables to the back of the display first, before mounting the display to the stand.

The Flip Pro itself already has a lot of ports – including audio since we can also plug in a webcam to this display to use it as a conference meeting display. The speakers on this display is decent enough and I think it’s adequate for meeting purposes.

By the way, it also supports Apple AirPlay 2 and it’s super simple to connect. Just a swipe and two taps and we’re connected.

Since we have the Connecitivity Tray – an optional accessory that we’ll talk about in a while – we’ll have to install it right now too. It’s not really a tray per se, it’s more like an extension that we can plug into the port at the bottom right side of the Flip Pro.

It kinda reminds me of the Nintendo 64DD Expansion Pack style of device. The purpose of this Connectivity Tray is actually to have more ports for the display and also for easy plug-and-play. Honestly, I think this Connectivity Tray is necessary as I don’t want to take the entire display off the stand every time I want to change some connectivity.

We also have two passive styluses in the box that snaps to two sides of the display. According to the website, this display can detect 2,048 pressure levels and has a very low latency of just 26ms and it even supports up to 20 multitouch points.

We have two styluses and we can use both styluses to draw on the screen at the same time. To demonstrate, we can hit the button at the bottom right corner to bring up the menu, then use this functionality to start drawing on top of it. To erase, just wipe our hands or entire palm on the display.

Also, if you look at our setup here, there is no place for us to put the laptop. I think that’s a huge oversight but I think the only obvious place to put a mini desk is at the back of the display because this display requires a lot of clearance around the front area since it can be rotated.

Yes, rotated from landscape to portrait mode and vice versa. And there is a good point for it. Even though this is a digital flipchart for business, it is actually great for classrooms too. Up until this point, I’m only showing it in a business presentation environment but for classes, this thing is amazing.

Removing the laptop will bring us back to the home screen which is essentially a digital whiteboard. We have a lot of tools to draw with – and it is especially useful if we want to use this to draw mathematical diagrams and graphs.

Besides that, I can foresee many more applications. You see, we can import templates to be used as the background. We do have a few to choose from but we can also import our own. I can foresee that fashion brand’s brainstorming session can make good use of this feature by importing the template of a garment and start drawing patterns and colors on top of it as a quick way to get an idea of how the final product might look.

We even have our own in-house Van Gogh drawing starry night using this Flip Pro too. It works, but I realized that the Flip Pro does not have a fill tool to fill in an entire area with a single color.

Once we’re done, we can save what we drew into a USB drive or export it via a multitude of different methods. We can use the app or through cloud storage, or even email. For our purpose, I’ll just use a USB drive. Also, just imagine for a moment that we don’t have this Connectivity Tray. That makes plugging and unplugging USB drives a pain in the ass.

Speaking of the connectivity tray, let’s talk about a few of the ports available here. From left to right, we have the standard USB-A port to transfer files quickly, then we have two extensions from the inside which I didn’t find any use for, then we have the USB 2.0 Type-B port here labeled “touch”. When we plug in this port and also another HDMI cable to the laptop, then we can essentially “convert” the laptop to become a touch screen. This feature only works with Windows laptops though.

Then lastly, the USB-C port. This is a combination of the aforementioned “touch” and HDMI ports into a single port, while also providing up to 15W. It’s not enough to charge your laptop – but it’s enough to charge your phone.

Yeah, speaking of that, if we combine this Flip Pro with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, we can do presentations on the fly. With the Bluetooth-connected S Pen, we can even use it as a remote clicker too.

Oh by the way – the S Pen actually works on the Samsung Flip Pro 55-inch WM55B too. I guess they do share some similarities in terms of technology?

Of course, this product is not perfect. In fact, I think this device can be improved in many different ways. While the hardware is pretty good, I do wish that there is a tray to actually let us put our laptop near the display. Currently, I have to run long cables across the entire desk to reach my laptop.

I think, this display could also use some sort of remote control. Currently, it requires a lot of big swipes to do simple things like switching between pages of the whiteboard. Currently, to enter something like the Note On mode while we’re using a laptop as a screen for example, will require the user to press the power button at the bottom right corner to bring up this menu. I am certain that a remote control can solve this issue – or make it so that I can tap and hold the screen to bring up this menu. Simple software fixes.

While we’re talking about software, I have to point out that the software is not exactly intuitive. It took me quite some time to familiarize and know how to perform basic tasks.

There is also another feature called Smart View where multiple devices can share their screen to the Flip Pro and the host can select which device’s screen should be shown on the screen. Imagine in a class where we get two students to do the same math question. Using this feature, everyone can view it at the same time. This feature is also useful for business meetings to compare notes or share ideas.

Also, Samsung says 2,048 sensing levels – well, I can detect none. The pen doesn’t have any spring like the S Pen and no matter how hard I press on the screen while I draw, it’s always the same width.

Then, the palm rejection. It’s… nonexistent. You see, if I am to draw on the display while my palm is resting on the display then it won’t work. That’s a huge bummer as free floating hand combined with big swipes will tire out the user’s arms fairly quickly – especially my noodle arms

Another complaint is the overall lag of this device. There are a lot of waiting even when I am just selecting pages or saving the roll. No idea why, but lots of waiting.

Who should buy this product?

And finally – the price. Since it is considered a B2B product, we do not have the official price. However, from what I can find on Shopee, this exact same bundle with the 55-inch Flip Pro interactive display with the stand and also the Connectivity Tray, is priced at RM10,699. I won’t comment on the price as the value of this product depends on how well it integrates into your workspace.

For me though, I find myself enjoying this type of video presentation. It’s something different for me.
