ASUS OLED family

Recently, we came across one interesting product that I have no idea it existed. It’s the YoloLiv YoloBox. Name aside, it’s a unique device that does a lot of things. It is the result of combining multiple different devices into one. Yet it makes sense since these are the equipment that one will find in live streaming setups.

The YoloLiv YoloBox provides the option to record while live streaming on to go with your mirrorless or DSLR while providing a large screen for monitoring.

So let’s take a look at what the YoloLiv YoloBox has to offer.

We highly recommend you watch the video to understand the YoloLiv YoloBox fully.

Design

The entire YoloBox YoloLiv is pretty simple in terms of design. Compared to the current camera monitor that we have, it’s slightly thicker but has a built-in battery. It’s sleeker in terms of design, too.

The massive 7-inch IPS LCD is certainly useful for many of us, as built-in camera screens tend to be too tiny to use – especially when trying to nail the focus.

Features

To talk about the features, we need to first talk about the ports available. The YoloBox YoloLiv comes with a slew of ports:

At the bottom, we have:

  • Audio out for audio monitoring
  • Micro SIM card slot
  • 1/4″-20 screw mount (cold shoe or tripod)
  • SD card slot
  • Power button

At the top, we have:

  • 2x HDMI in
  • USB in
  • HDMI out
  • Ethernet port
  • Audio in for microphone
  • USB Type-C port for charging

Looking at the ports alone, we get a sense of what this device strives to be. You can slot in a 4G SIM card and start streaming wirelessly. Just mount everything onto your camera – microphone, the YoloBox YoloLiv, and you’re essentially good to go.

Software

For the software part, you can do a lot of things. We tried plugging in our PC and camera into the YoloBox YoloLiv, and output to a large 27-inch monitor for demonstration purposes. The YoloBox YoloLiv allows picture-in-picture view with dynamic scaling and placement.

Better yet, you can save your watermark file into an SD card or USB stick and plug it into the YoloBox YoloLiv. Then, your live stream is watermarked out of the box.

Also, the YoloBox YoloLiv does have a recording feature. You can record and live stream at the same time!

The YoloBox YoloLiv supports a few different streaming platforms out of the box. More will be added soon, so make sure to keep your YoloBox YoloLiv firmware up to date.

Whichever the case may be, you can use a custom RTMP server if you choose to do so. With custom RTMP, you can use Restream.io if you choose to do so.

Battery life

I think, all in all, this is the only thing I have to complain about the YoloBox YoloLiv. The battery life isn’t that good – about 3 hours of battery life.

In retrospect, the YoloBox YoloLiv is doing a lot of work and it’s constantly pushing its limits while live streaming. Video encoding from multiple inputs while streaming at the same time is not an easy task.

However, to YoloBox YoloLiv’s credit, you can strap in a power bank behind the unit itself. May I interest you in some velcro with double-sided tape? You can get them at Daiso for only RM5.90. It’s extremely handy for this use case, honestly.

By the way, there is no brightness control on the YoloBox YoloLiv. It’s at 100% brightness all the time.

Wrapping up the YoloLiv YoloBox review

This is certainly a unique product. I don’t think there are any rivaling products in the market, yet the YoloBox YoloLiv is a very niche product.

For the price of RM4,999, yes – it’s expensive, but you boon for those who want to live stream on the go with their real cameras – not smartphones.

As for what the YoloBox YoloLiv offers currently, this is a fantastic product. It can do so many things on its own and we can predict that many people will be using it in conventions or events.
