A report from Strategy Analytics has revealed that Samsung is the winner of 5G devices in terms of sales for the first half of 2020.
Delve deeper into the statistics and it shows that the Galaxy S20+ is the highest at 9% followed by the Galaxy S20 Ultra at 8% while the standard Galaxy S20 takes 3rd place at 5%. Stack all of them together and you get a 22% global 5G sales number credited to Samsung alone.
While 5G modems are still a relatively pricy module to integrate in recent years, 2020 shows a sign of technological maturity for the next-gen wireless standard as many manufacturers and brands have started to introduce mid-range devices with 5G capabilities such as Samsung’s A51 5G alongside other types of mobile devices such as tablets. They are not lacking behind the infrastructure game either, providing mobile operators the solutions needed to set up a proper network such as 5G RAN, Core, and Network Automation tools.
Aside from outdoor coverage, the Samsung Link Cell is also one of its custom solutions dedicated to indoor use that enables the same seamless 5G connection to any users which will be especially useful for those relying on high bandwidth and fast speeds for its core business. Industrial IoT will be taking a fair share of the pie as tens of hundreds of miniature sensors and devices needs low latency and a wide range of usable channels/frequencies to operate at the best conditions.
With the success of the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung has already set the pace for 5G adoption and shaped consumer expectations for next-gen connectivity. As it continues to play a critical role in refining the technology and making it more accessible through a broader range of devices, including standalone 5G smartphones, the future of 5G looks more promising than ever.
And yet Samsung is making flagship smartphones with 5G even more affordable now with the release of the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. It’s a fantastic phone, and we love it, too.
