When the first video came out, everyone was messaging me with the same message. “Have you seen the teardown yet? It says that the Galaxy Z Flip is not using glass!” And I’ve been saying the same thing – the Galaxy Z Flip has a protective polymer layer on top, and that durability test is testing that polymer layer instead. Samsung already mentioned that polymer layer, by the way.
And then comes Jerry Rig Everything. Well-known for his durability tests – particularly since the days of bending iPhone 6, made a name for himself in testing phones’ durability.
I looked up to him on many of his tests, but the Galaxy Z Flip durability test is filled with misinformation. Jumping into conclusion and calling it “fake glass” is literally fake news.
I know he’s testing the polymer layer. A lot of people who know its polymer on top of glass, started pinging Jerry Rig Everything on Twitter and telling him the situation.
And after two days of misinformation, Jerry Rig Everything finally posted a video clarifying that he did indeed find glass.
So yes, calm down – there is a layer of ultra-thin glass as advertised, but it’s just not what we’re touching. There is still a layer of polymer on top. Ripping out the polymer layer like this will indeed shatter the thin layer of glass, which is expected since thinner glass has lower strength. We presume there’s a special solvent to either dissolve or soften the polymer layer.

The thing I’m trying to say here is simple – don’t jump into conclusions. It will only spread misinformation.
