An unmanned SpaceX Falcon rocket has recently exploded post-landing after successfully deploying an ocean monitoring satellite in orbit. The landing is an experimental method of being able to land a rocket safely that can later be reused.

SpaceX Falcon rocket was precisely on target but one of its landing leg lockout did not latch properly and the whole spacecraft tipped over into a Michael Bay style destruction.

Despite the more than rough landing, the whole mission was otherwise a success in delivering the payload into orbit. The ocean monitoring satellite is the height-monitoring satellite called the Jason 3. SpaceX continues to improve and increase their success rate of safe spacecraft landing and hopefully nail it in time for them to actually safely carry astronauts in light of the recent NASA contract.
