Looks like folks at University of  Southampton, UK are enjoying their light speed data transfer with their new hollow fiber optic cable. It is capable of achieving 99.

The problem with hollow fiber optic cables are data losses when they are cornering the cables. The University has succeeded to reduce the data loss to 3.5dB per Km.
