It is human nature that we strive for perfection, to understand and to create. We are now coming to an era of modern medical science where artificial heart or limbs are no longer science fiction.

Human blood is a scarce natural material given its nature of having multiple types, compatibility and can only be produced by another human being. Plus, the process of extracting blood takes time and only a number of volunteers donate blood regularly.

Scientists at Wallcome Trust has successfully created a universal artificial human compatible blood from stem cell technology. It is ready to be tested on a live human being which can later be mass produced in a blood factory. The way this works is by taking cells from a human being which will then be reversed into stem cells. In order to make it universal, they are specifically producing type O which is a universal donor type.

The final product now meets the standards of an actual transfusion. First human clinical trial will start on 2016. This will mean that blood will never be a scarce fluid for hospitals, clinic or field emergency response team. Blood shortage will be a thing of the past especially for developing countries.
