Back in the days when I was still a kid, Tamagotchi and all those other virtual pet devices were the hottest gadgets. Like everything else, as days passed by, the heat fades away but not completely, and also leaves a permanent mark into that generation.

16 years has passed, and now Tamagotchi released an app that is an exact replica of the old school Tamagotchi devices with a high-resolution mode for free for both Android and iOS devices. Keep in mind though, it is now only available for both United States and Canada on Android devices only.

Visit the Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. website here!

They are using the new tagline L.i.f.e. as an abbreviation of “Love Is Fun Everywhere”, as a propeller to the theme of the game.

The game’s start menu is clean and minimal with three nostalgic little characters back from the original Tamagotchi, only coloured and upscaled.

The menu button offers you very basic controls over the audio, and also notifications so that the app can notify you if the Tamagotchi took a loo or needs “the injection”. There’s also a Facebook logout button, as it is only logical to do so if you’re ever going to be a great hit in the app world these days.

When started, the game looks all entirely familiar to its original device, with the three buttons, a screen and the eggshell-shaped plastic-built case.

Up on top left there are 3 buttons, starting with home which returns you to the start menu, a Tamagotchi icon that brings you back to the Tamagotchi screen, and a book icon that brings you to the Tamagotchi index, showing the full list of Tamagotchis, change wallpaper and shell design for your Tamagotchi device.

The two buttons on the top left however, are magnificently mesmerizing for those who had their hands on the original Tamagotchi device.

The magnifying glass icon brings the entire Tamagotchi screen to full screen view, neglecting the eggshell, colouring the Tamagotchi character and also upscaling the graphics.

In this mode, the three buttons on the original Tamagotchi is gone, and all the controls are fully touch controlled.

I have to say, the high resolution redesign of the entire game is certainly beautiful with simplicity. When it comes to the menus, the fonts are as playful as, if not more, it should be.

The last button is the camera button, which takes a screenshot of the game and offers you to save it to your Gallery or to share it on Facebook.

It is without a doubt heating up again as Tamagotchi releases this app for free on the U.S. and Canada(for now) Google Play Store and also soon on iOS App Store for free as Tamagotchi’s 16th birthday gift for the world.

I myself have been addicted to this game as it is much less clingy than its Digimon rival (there’s an app for that), much more simpler and easier to handle as contrasted to Digimon that has a lot of sudden deaths and does not have a notification system.

The game too only takes about a couple of minutes to fully feed and fulfill happiness gauge, and it solely depends on your if you ever want to fulfill either of the gauges or take the extra mile to feed snacks and or to discipline it. Typical things such as cleaning poo and turning the lights off are notified by the app itself, unnecessary for you to set your own timers and alarms for it.

Overall, I recommend you to try this app for yourself as it is free, though unfortunately only for Android devices for now.

A big thumbs up to the developers!!
