When you think of Tesla launching a bicycle, you’d probably expect an electric bike packed with cutting-edge tech. Instead, the company has surprised everyone with something much simpler – a balance bike designed for young children.
Called the Balance Bike for Kids, Tesla’s newest addition to its online store is a pedal-free bicycle designed to help children aged 2 to 5 develop balance before transitioning to a traditional bike. While it doesn’t come with an electric motor or battery, it does carry the same minimalist design language seen across the company’s vehicles.
The balance bike features a lightweight magnesium frame, pneumatic air-filled tires, and a five-position adjustable saddle that grows with the child. It’s recommended for riders weighing up to 30kg, with a maximum supported weight of 35kg, and requires a minimum inseam of 35cm. Tesla also includes the necessary assembly tools in the box.
At US$225 (around RM950), no doubt this is yet another “fun buy” for the middle-class and rich fellas, since demand appears to be strong when the initial stock sold out shortly after launch, with the product now listed as out of stock, while customers can sign up to be notified when it becomes available again. Early orders are expected to begin shipping in late August.
