Grand Theft Auto VI may be the most eagerly anticipated video game in the world. In fact, it isn’t a huge stretch to say it’s probably one of the most anticipated games of the century so far. The only problem is that we still don’t know when it’s coming out. Reports on GTA VI have clued us in on a few interesting details (such as a possible return to Vice City). But indications of release date have been few and far between, and at this point, we’re likely going to be waiting at least into 2022.
Anticipation and build-up are effective in generating excitement. But at this point, the folks over at Rockstar might be pushing things a little bit. We’re approaching 10 years since GTA V came out (back in 2013), and while that’s still a very popular title, fans are itching for more.
One way for Rockstar to address the impatience and maybe keep fans happy would be to put out something new that isn’t a full GTA console game.
They actually more or less tried this strategy a long while back with the mobile version of GTA: San Andreas. It was a wonderfully enjoyable, scaled-down version of the console game by the same name, and it gave fans something to enjoy in the aftermath of the GTA V release. That, plus occasional large drops of DLC, have kept the franchise fresh.
With gamers growing impatient though, Rockstar might be wise to try a strategy of this sort once again. And the logical outlet is for the company to embrace casino gaming, in one way or another. Whether this means an online casino game based on the GTA series, or some small but original game revolving around a casino within the GTA world, there are a number of reasons this makes sense.
First off is that existing online casinos’ tendency to host themed and licensed content would likely make this an exceedingly easy development for Rockstar. For those who aren’t familiar with casino entertainment, online slots, jackpots and play Roulette77 for real money have over the last several years become known for exciting themes and animations. The selection of games on Foxy Bingo showcases many of the most widely popular options and gives you some sense of the style and variety of games we’re talking about. Among them, you’ll see slots based on everything from Roman history, to classic games like Tetris, to mainstream TV programs. A slot arcade based on Grand Theft Auto would fit right in and would make for a win-win situation. It would give GTA enthusiasts something new to have fun with, and it would give the casino sites one more popular title with which to attract players.
Another reason that casino gaming makes for a particularly sensible outlet for Rockstar is that casinos in the existing Grand Theft Auto games are already quite popular (as are some mini-game activities in the Red Dead Redemption series). Most notably, the Diamond Casino in GTA V is a robust and beloved feature and one that’s been at the centre of much of the game’s most exciting DLC. What this means is that plenty of GTA fans already associate their favourite games with casino side content.
This, for one thing, makes a slot-style GTA game at an online casino platform all the more natural. But it also opens up other possibilities. For instance, Rockstar could likely design its own standalone Diamond Casino game fairly easily. It could exist online or as a mobile app; it could even incorporate virtual reality. Whatever the case, such a game could essentially simulate all of the fun of a real-world casino within the GTA world and aesthetic. This wouldn’t represent anything mind-blowingly new, but it would be a fun treat for players as we continue to await GTA VI.
Whether or not any of this is particularly likely is impossible to say. In all likelihood, we won’t get much save for some new DLC for GTA V between now and the eventual release of GTA VI. But the mobile editions of past games have at least shown that Rockstar is open to putting out some smaller, side entertainment in the interims between games. Casino games of this kind would be easy for Rockstar and appealing to players.
