Transcend has finally announced their first ever SSD that utilizes the latest PCIe Gen 3 x4 interface with full compatibility of the NVMe 1.2 specs. Each time I see an SSD that uses PCIe Gen 3 and with NVMe specs, the speeds must be insane – and the Transcend MTE850 is no different.
With the far more superior PCIe Gen 3 x4’s theoretical bandwidth limit of 32GB/s, SSDs can really go beyond imaginable speeds while having a much tinier size. A single stick of M.2 SSD is arguably much more streamlined in design compared to a SATA-based SSD, in my opinion.
As we’ve stated, the Transcend MTE850 can reach up to 2,500 MB/s reads and 1,100 MB/s writes because of a few engineering decisions. Firstly, it uses DDR3 DRAM cache, SLC caching, and also uses low-density parity check (LDPC) to ensure its reliability. Combined with 3D MLC NAND technology, its long-term reliability is greatly improved too.
Currently, the Transcend MTE850 is offered in 128GB, 256GB, and also 512GB variants, and it’s backed with Transcend’s 3-year limited warranty.
