The year hasn’t even ended and Transcend has already scored a total of 4 awards for Taiwan Excellence Award 2018!

Unlike last year which Transcend won with their multitude of categories of products, Transcend’s awards for 2018’s Taiwan Excellence Award are focused based on only one category of product – external storage. Transcend scored big this time with their StoreJet 25M3E and StoreJet 25C3 external hard disks, alongside with the CM42 M.2 SSD enclosure kit and the ESD220C external SSD.

We actually reviewed 2 out of the 4 products that won the Taiwan Excellence Award 2018, which we’ll link down below.

First off, the StoreJet 25C3. It’s a sleek external hard disk with a slim aluminium body and chamfered edges. It’s sexy, to say the least. With its gunmetal grey color, all I can say is that it’s sexy and it’s lightweight. The design is subtle with Transcend’s logo tucked away at the top right corner. There’s also an LED indicator beside the USB port, which is placed subtly.

Though, this is the first time I’ve seen Transcend break off from their usual silicon-encased external storage devices. Furthermore, the StoreJet 25C3 does not have Transcend’s iconic One Touch Backup button, which I suppose is a sacrifice for the sake of aesthetics. The backup task can be automated through software, anyway.

Next up is the ESD220C. It’s an external SSD with feather-like weight. It weighs only 55 grams with the cable, so it’s pretty easy to place it in your backpack and not feel it as it’s just too lightweight. You can, however, get pretty good performance out of it since it’s an SSD after all.

It has very high IOPS compared to USB drives and external hard disks, much better transfer speeds, and most importantly – less prone to physical damage.

The StoreJet 25M3E is actually similar to the StoreJet 25MC that we reviewed here – just without the USB-C port and instead uses USB 3.0 micro-B connector. They both have Transcend’s latest iteration of their shock resistance built into the external hard disk enclosure, too.

The last but certainly one of the most useful tools to have is the Transcend CM42, and actually also the CM80. The CM80 is just a longer version of the CM42, which supports up to M.2 2280 form factors. It’s an external enclosure for M.2 SSDs where you can put in your own M.2 SSD inside it and convert it to become a USB drive.

I did a review on Tech Critter for the Transcend JetDrive 820 SSD for Mac and I have to tell you – If I had an upgrade kit like the Transcend CM42 for the MacBook Air’s proprietary SSD connector, it’ll be a bliss as I can perform the migration a lot faster. I used an external hard disk as my interim backup drive during the migration process, and it took me two days to complete the entire process.

Such external enclosures – also known as “upgrade kits” – are essential.

Congratulations once again to Transcend for scoring 4 awards for the Taiwan Excellence Award 2018! Hopefull, we’ll see more exciting new things in the storage industry in 2018, even though there’s a shortage in DRAM as of now. But hey – one can always hope.
