The Yes Eclipse 4G has been in the market for a few months.

You’ll probably have heard about it, or read about it. However, as a person who loves Android, I would stay miles away from it. It runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) and runs on 4G. Is it really that bad?

Most Android users started with the SGS2. The SGS2 is without a doubt better. Comparing the SGS2 with the Eclipse is like comparing a Lamborghini with a Proton.

The Eclipse has 512MB ram and a 1GHZ Snapdragon processor. That my friend, is nothing other than a HTC Desire (at least on paper). If you follow USA news, you’ll understand how horrible battery life is with 4G. I’m sure you’ve discovered that by now with the 1500mAh battery on the Eclipse.

Most of you on a HTC Desire would remember how horrible app space was, and how desperate you were for apps2SD – and this is where you’ll face more of that with the Eclipse.

It costs you RM990 on a RM88 contract for 2 years. That’s blazingly expensive considering the kind of hardware you’ll get. I’ll rather just get a Yes Huddle. Also, it’s 12.9mm thick, giving you a bulge (the wrong kind) in the pants.

Yes markets it as a “4 way instant video call”  and “instant 6 way audio call”. But seriously? Which Malaysian would use that feature? Last I know, so few Malaysians even use Skype, Viber or even FaceTime!

The worst bit is – you’ll never know how much better Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich is when you’re belly full with Froyo. Unless you truly love Froyo, don’t make an exception for the Eclipse because it will truly send you to the dark ages.
