Two days of events back to back! Certainly is an eventful week for students of Multimedia University Cyberjaya campus. Today’s event is a one-day only event by Microsoft – their very own Windows Carnival! Happened today at the glass room of Faculty of Computing and Informatics in Multimedia University Cyberjaya campus.![]()
It’s exactly the same as last year’s carnival, with the exact same games, and same prizes, but this time they’re promoting the very beautiful Office 2013 with their very own tailored demo that shows what’s so great about the Excel and PowerPoint. They even have a promotion for the new Office 365 University, which is essentially Google Docs for Office.
Taking a look into the event itself they have simple carnival games, as they named it, Pop Soda, Pop Star, I-Scream and Pop Goes The Weasel. Breaking it down, Pop Soda is just to throw the loops in the bottles, Pop Star essentially Pachinko, I-Scream is to scream at certain levels of loudness and Pop Goes The Weasel is to pop balloons with darts.
Going into the event venue itself, there was a table and shelf, both full of hard disks – internal ones by Seagate and external ones by Acer, and Avast! antivirus – all at a low price.
Now if you’re thinking why I can get such a clear shot with no other people in it, it’s because I got a perfectly timed shot on HDR. The venue itself was actually a busy place with students going in and out constantly and the venue was steaming hot even in an air-conditioned room.
And what’s an Office 2013 promotion without computers to try it with? There were two computers – one all-in-one desktop computer with a touch screen and another laptop at the side.
The demonstrations were well prepared and explained clearly with the all-in-one computer, mesmerizing all the audience – including me, with the seamless touch-screen integration with Office 2013. As any new concept will be, it does have a little learning curve before you’re working with absolute speed. The demonstration with SkyDrive also worked well, since all the demonstration files were backed up online.
The emcee also had pop quiz for the audience and awarded them with Philips earphones.
What’s a Windows Carnival without Windows 8 PCs too, right? There were also a few laptops and tablets available for testing – some Sony, HP, Acer and Toshiba. Nothing much here since I’m already using Windows 8 myself… the tablet though, offers a totally different experience on Windows 8.
Back to the carnival games, you’ll have to fill in a survey to get the scorecard, and then get to play 4 games and a quiz to earn points to redeem your prize. I scored a total of 21 marks – missing only one game’s full score to claim the ultimate prize.
The prizes are simple, more or less same like last year’s.
Third prize is an Om Nom plush from Cut The Rope, ranging from 0~19 points.
Second prize is a teddy bear with camouflage, flower or pixel design, ranging from 20~24 points.
First prize is a life-size teddy bear, available only in brown or white, only claimable with 25 points.
A little self-promotion here, my friends and I got these.
Would I recommend you to go to the Windows Carnival if it’s at your university campus? Surely I will, it’s a great event and simple event! Of course the prizes are unsuitable for guys, but still, reserve them for your girlfriend or the young ones in the family
I apologize for the picture quality, these pictures are taken with an LG Nexus 4 on HDR mode.
