Leica’s exclusive partnership with HUAWEI has crumbled as the German-based manufacturer hops onto the Xiaomi boat in today’s announcement.
Despite being breaking news, both brands actually already have something planned, and the first flagship smartphone (presumably under the Xiaomi brand although Leica did make their own smartphone last year) will be revealed in July this year. Through the power of machine learning and AI algorithm, the Chinese brand is confident that without breaking the motto of honest pricing, they can take digital imaging to the next level by using physical components from the very best which, of course, is Leica.
While partnership news between optical equipment manufacturers and smartphone brands is nothing but a norm every now and then, at least it took Xiaomi this long to finally rely on other experts in order to stay relevant.
