There comes a time where people were very happy with cases on their phones. I admit that I was one of them too, until sometime during December of 2012, when I was using my Galaxy Nexus without any cases at all. Partly this is due to the fact that there aren’t much cases to choose from and also the phone is nicely shaped with the curve, which I really appreciate its design.
Not long after that, I changed to an European version of the LG Nexus 4. That’s a great phone, but with the glass sandwich, I immediately got a case for it – a bumper case. That bumper case was great – I can appreciate the beauty of it while getting some protection without much additional bulk. However, the sides are still lifted and yet the buttons are really not that pleasant to be pressed.
When I changed to a OnePlus One a while ago, I thought – why not get a skin this time? Then I went on and get a dbrand skin, since they have a beautiful mahogany design for the OnePlus One.
Protection + design – bulk = beauty + original feel
[nextpage title=”Choosing the right One”]
This is an easy part. You can choose your phone’s colour, then select designs that you want to put on the phone itself, and then a preview shows up.
All the available designs are up there for you to choose, so just pick what you want and the preview appears. Some phones like the OnePlus even has an option to not have cutouts for the capacitive – a great addition for those who are like me.

Then comes the part about parts of the skin. The OnePlus One is rather confusing, since dbrand offers a skin for the back, front, and also the camera. I then purchased all 3 thinking that the 3 pieces are sold separately if I want to wrap the phone entirely with the skin I chose.
dbrand stated that if you do plan to get the front piece of skin, you’ll get two screen protectors that is specially made for the phone’s screen cutout. That’s a great deal too.

I chose to go with the risky shipment, which costs $5. I then waited for a month to see what I will get.
A month passed. This came in a rather dull envelope with dbrand’s logo at the top left. Contents however were supported by a moderately thick piece of plastic and a tough piece of paper so it can’t be bent while delivering. The skins I ordered came safely.
[nextpage title=”Opening the mail”]

Everything laid nicely in the mail, and opening it reveals everything that I ordered, including the two screen protectors. Quality is way beyond what I expected, and I’m feeling like I paid less than what I got.
Seriously, I thought the mahogany skin was just a piece of flat skin with a fixed texture just as shown on the website to be printed on the skin, but no. dbrand did the extra step and make it actually have ridges, mimicking a real tree bark and also had a very different pattern from the one shown on the website. I was shocked to see this, and was glad that they did this. Fantastic job!
My disappointment was that there wasn’t any microfiber cloth included, but that’s not a problem for me since everyone in my family wears a pair of specs, except for me.
With all these laid out, I saw something that quickly made my forehead frown. Why is there an included piece of camera skin on the back cover? What was shown on the website was entirely different, and I was not happy with that, like my $2 just got cheated off by some misinformation.
[nextpage title=”Applying the skins?”]
Not so fast – I’ve got to watch the videos and take my time to stick it first. Speaking of application, dbrand provides specific how-to-apply videos on each phone models that dbrand sells the skin for, so OnePlus One has its own video, the Nexus 6 has its own, and every other phone has its own.
I’ll be using the skin for quite some time before I can really give my real thoughts and review about the dbrand skins, so stay tuned for that!
