At this point of time, I’m pretty sure most of you have already seen the ZenFone 2 (which we also reviewed here) – and we’re not done with it.. When we opened the package, we saw one special thing that was included – the earphones. That pair of earphones is the closest to the unreleased ZenEar, which currently can only be acquired through bundling of the ZE551ML version with 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage.
There is no packaging obviously, since this pair of earphones is bundled along with the ZenFone 2 – specifically the ZE551ML with 4GB RAM versions.
Most probably, there are no retail packaging for this version of the earphones but then again that is yet to be seen – as ASUS did announce that the ZenEar and the ZenEar S will be sold separately too, and there are no word about it so far. Hey – it’s been months, at least give us a clue here.
The pair of earphones itself came with a total of 3 different sizes of eartips – small, medium (which is installed by default), and large.
[nextpage title=”Design and features”]
This earphone is made out of some pretty basic materials – a slim flat cable for all the wires, and then plastic housing for the ear buds.
One thing I do like about the design is how the curvature of the plastic housing on the ear buds are. They match the curvature of the fingertips, and that makings pushing it into the ear canals a lot more natural and accurate without the risk of fingers slipping off. It’s pretty similar to the pictures we’ve seen about the ZenEar, albeit without the little concentric circle around the ASUS logo there. Most phones that is about the ZenFone 2’s market of high-end budget flagship smartphones don’t even have earphones bundled along – even the LG G4 doesn’t have any.
Let’s be honest – I wasn’t expecting anything good out of this pair of bundled earphone, but it managed to outperform my expectations and even sound better than the Beyerdynamic XP2. Heck, the quality of this thing is decent too! Soundstage could be better than just telling me if it’s coming from the left or right, near or far.
It’s an awesome pair of free earphones, and the bad news is I have no idea where to get this pair of earphones now except by getting it as a bundle earphone with the ZE551ML 4GB versions. Prices are unknown, availability is still unknown, and heck – even the name. I’ve been calling it “the pair of earphones that came along with ZenFone 2’s ZE551ML 4GB RAM version” for this entire review. It certainly shaped like the ZenEar, but the build material is obviously different.
Whichever way, this pair of earphones definitely add extra golden value to the ZE551ML 4GB RAM version.

Are these headphones coming with all 4 GB models ? I just bought a 4 GB ZE551ML 5-6 days back but there are no headphones. Do I need to contact ASUS separately to send them or something like that if it is not bundled ?
They should be bundled alongside with it. Do give them a call, because I’m using the ZE551ML 32GB version too.
I received delivery of ASUS Zenfone 2 with 4 GB Version ZE 551 ML on 7th October 2015 but without headphone. Requesting to manage delivery free of cost at my address without further delay.
Wow that’s a first. Glad you managed to get it 😀
These earphones are actually great!
Actually, this earphone 100% same with older zenfone model aZ5,6, and 4.. And yup i agree with you.. This is the best free earphone with good sound output quality .. And i want to purchase the zenear but i couldnt find it at my place. Is it available online?
Hey Ppeh, I didn’t know that the earphone is the same lol.
The ZenEar isn’t available as far as I know. They did advertise but it didn’t show up at all 🙁
Got mine for almost a year. It comes with the earphones. All I can say is the sound quality is superb. But the bad thing is… my daughter lost it and I can’t find a store that sells the same earphones.
Awww, that’s sad. I suppose the other alternative is the Xiaomi earphones. The one that costs about RM60 or so. That one is really great too!
