I’m sorry – what’s this? A deep red colour for a smartphone? That’s something that we don’t see everyday. It certainly is beautiful and absolutely special too. This RED colour is referred to as the “Valentine Red” for the OPPO R9s Valentine Red Edition, and they referred it as the symbolization of good luck and great fortune – which is pretty much in line with the ong-ness, as we Malaysians call it. Ever since the Valentine Red has been sold out, OPPO is trying to bring the Valentine Red back int othe market with a reason – and this time, they’re going to call it the OPPO R9s Min Chen edition.
Other than that, everything else is pretty much the same. The OPPO R9s Valentine Red Edition has the 16MP rear-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture, and another 16MP selfie camera but with f/2.0 aperture.

We also unboxed the OPPO R9s too – which to our surprise, was very well-designed overall. I wonder if the OPPO R9s Valentine Red edition will have a deep red colour instead of being white? If it does, it’ll be really cool.

[UPDATE 6th February 2017]: OPPO just released more details for the R9s Valentine Red!
This time, OPPO opted to go with the pre-order route again – but with a twist. You can actually get a custom laser print, for your limited edition Red R9s, but only for online pre-orders. The online pre-orders can only be done at http://www.oppostore.com.my/products/r9sred/, and requires full payment since it will be personalized with your words of choice.
Else, you can opt in for offline pre-order from any of OPPO’s Concept Store nationwide. For this option, you’ll only need RM100 deposit for the pre-order, and pay the remaining later.
Before I forget – the full price for the OPPO R9s Valentine Red edition is RM 1,798. Zero additional cost from the basic model!
Pre-order starts on the 7th of February at 10am – so get ready to land you pre-orders quick!

Yes, the two dreaded words for those who are eyeing on limited edition goods. OPPO and I are really sorry to tell you that the limited edition OPPO R9s Valentine Red has sold out!

[UPDATE 16th February 2017]: New R9s Min Chen Limited Edition!
From what we’ve seen, the OPPO R9s Valentine Red edition has been sold out pretty quickly – because everyone is literally fighting for one. I mean, I’d like to get one myself too, if I could.
So here comes OPPO’s latest announcement – they will have a limited number of the OPPO R9s Min Chen Limited Edition. Basically, they’re a re-run of the OPPO R9s Valentine Red edition, but this time with Min Chen’s signature engraved behind!
We have zero details on where or how to get it yet, but I highly suspect it’ll be a round of pre-orders again. You can read up on our full review of the OPPO R9s while waiting for the details.
Also, OPPO Has prepared some exclusive gifts for users who purchase the R9s Min Chen Limited Edition too!

So you wanna get yourself an exclusive OPPO R9s Min Chen Limited Edition? Here are the full details.
You’ll get a special-designed box, a cartoonized caricature of Min Chen on the phone case, a bunch of Min Chen’s selfies and wallpapers, and even her alarm ringtone. You’ll need to have this if you’re calling yourself a fan of Min Chen!
The OPPO R9s Min Chen edition is priced at the usual RM 1,798 – which is good, since OPPO didn’t jack up the price at all. It’ll be available for purchase starting on the 22nd February 2017 at a total of 3 places:
- OPPO Malaysia’s official online store
- OPPO Concept Stores nationwide
- Exclusively at Lazada

Damn, I can’t believe Min Chen was sold out in just 20 minutes. Oh – I meant the online pre-orders for the OPPO R9s Min Chen edition were sold out, not her physically.
Fret not, as you can still order it in OPPO Concept Stores nationwide. Not a big deal – just that you’ll have to head on over to a physical store to pre-order. A little annoying, but loyal Min Chen fans will have absolutely ZERO complaints!
