You’ve seen our coverage on the OPPO R9s here on Nasi Lemak Tech, and suffice to say, it’s a great phone already. Here’s our review, and here are our other coverages revolving around the OPPO R9s. However, there are those who seek more than what the original OPPO R9s has to offer. That brings us to the new OPPO R9s Plus – the plus-sized R9s on every single way.

So what does the Plus in the OPPO R9s Plus brings? A few crucial upgrades from the original, actually. Firstly, it now has a 6-inch screen with 1080p resolution, a massive 4,000mAh battery, and a performance bump too. It is now using a Snapdragon 653 chipset with a 1.95GHz octa-core processor with a total of 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Of course, there’s also a microSD card slot that can expand up to an additional 128GB.

I really wonder why OPPO opted for a non-FinFET-based Snapdragon 653 for the R9s Plus, but uses a FinFET-based Snapdragon 625 on their OPPO R9s. In a way, this does make a huge difference. You can learn more about FinFET and how it saves battery in our case study here.

Yep, that’s Min Chen.

As for the camera – the OPPO R9s Plus should take on the mantra of “Now It’s Clearer“, as it now has OIS embedded into the camera module. I’ve griped about this quite a bit before, and I’m glad OPPO took heed and included OIS in the OPPO R9s Plus. Effectively though, everything else remains the same as the original OPPO R9s. Still the same customized Sony IMX398 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture lens, and still the same magnificent Dual-PDAF auto-focusing too. Presumably, they’re using the same

Now for the price. As stated, it’ll be at RM 2,498 – that is really expensive in my opinion. It’ll be available in OPPO online and concept stores, telco, and e-commerce sites starting today.

By the way, both ambassadors were there for the launch event too. Ayda Jebat and Min Chen were on the stage together!
