As the major players in the smartphone industry tries to make their devices as ‘compatible’ as possible for all users, the problem remains for those who can’t see. Given the limitations, there is an option to assist such user to navigate around their devices, but without any sense of touch or tactile feedback, it is hard to tell if they navigated as they wanted to.
The biggest problem is however, navigating with a perfectly flat screen doesn’t help at all – even with voice, as it can really confuse the hell out of such users. The guys over at National Institute of Design made a touch-screen device that uses a pop-up screen – as in dots and lines will come out of the screen for you to feel the touch, instead of a perfectly flat slab with voice and tactile feedback.
Check out a video of the device below!
As it is still under development, a name is yet to be given to this device, but hopes to be released within 2013 at a price of $185 (RM561.75). The video surely reminded me of the concept video of Nokia Morph somehow.
