I have no idea that TikTok actually has its own All-Star competition until now. I also had no idea that Malaysian TikTok users are actually so powerful. There are top 30 finalists from Malaysia that will be competing against 150 other creators across Southeast Asia. The TikTok All-Star Southeast Asia 2019 is set to seek out new talents – including Malaysia – to incubate and grow further.
There are nearly 23,000 submissions across all 3 categories (talent, acting and lifestyle) from Malaysia alone, and these videos have already garnered over 53 million views in total.
| Talent category: wingkeh_keifth |
Acting category: puspawangirauza |
Lifestyle category: lofstedtdude |
You can also check out the top 30 finalists here. They will be competing against the other 150 other creators in Southeast Asia.
So far, there are over 302K submissions from across the entire region – which results in 507M views. That is an insane number, actually.
YouGov, an international research and data analytics group, did a survey which reveals that 82% of respondents from Malaysia agreed that creativity is important and 84% of them said that it is important for the future. And TikTok sets themselves as the platform to cater for creativity through short-form videos.
77% of respondents also believe that the creative industry contributes significantly to the nation’s economic growth. The respondents also indirectly ranked their favorite form to express creativity – 67% voted for photos/illustration, 56% voted for short-form videos, and 39% voted for music.
From now until 25th November, these top finalists will be going on a second round to showcase their talent. Judges such as Elizabeth Tan (Singer/Actress), Ngo Kien Huy (Singer/Actor), WOODY (TV Host/Social Influencer), ANJI (Singer/Content Creator), Rico Blanco (Singer/Songwriter) and RRILEY (Singer/Artist) will be judging the contestants. Six candidates from each category will advance to the finals, where public voting will commence from 28th to 30th November.
For all I can say, TikTok is a pretty good platform for quick inspiration – there are lots of random things in there and you never know when inspiration will hit you.
