After a long time being a “Windows tool”, UL has officially announced that 3DMark will be entering the macOS ecosystem via a native port.
This new addition is fully optimized to run on Apple Silicon, which means from M1 to M4 chips, and utilizes Metal API to bring the same benchmark consistency you’d expect across Windows, Android, and iOS platforms.
It includes Wild Life Extreme, Solar Bay, Steel Nomad Light, and for the first time on macOS, the full Steel Nomad benchmark—the same heavy-duty test previously limited to Windows.
Specifically, the Explorer Mode for Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light lets you free roam all the benchmark scenes with custom camera angles (Devs hinted that there are easter eggs inside, so go find them).
You can also use game controllers to explore, save your scores to 3DMark.com for comparison, enable sound for more immersive runs, test at custom resolutions with HDR, and even earn Steam achievements.
If you already own 3DMark, there’s nothing more you need to do as the macOS version is included with your license. It’s available now on Steam, with versions coming soon to the Epic Games Store and directly via 3DMark.com.
