Remember Samsung’s other product launches during the Galaxy Note Unpacked 2016 event? Those Samsung Gear  family of devices. The Geat IconX, Gear Fit2, Gear 360, and Gear VR. Personally speaking, it’s quite impressive.

Let’s start off in the order listed above.

Gear Fit2

In terms of the features, both Samsung Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX doesn’t have much difference. They have GPS and heart-rate monitor built in, but the Gear Fit2 has a screen. Obviously that means the Gear Fit2 will display information on the screen itself while you’re working out. No smartphone required.

Gear IconX

The Samsung Gear IconX however is a wireless pair of earphones which can still track your fitness information like the GearFit 2 does, but requires a smartphone to view the information. To be honest, I’m quite interested in the one feature alone – its internal storage. It has 4GB of storage (which isn’t a whole lot to be honest) and can control music through tapping or swiping of the earbud itself. Remember that Samsung Level OVER headphone that we reviewed? The Gear IconX took design cues from that pair of headphone too.

Moreover, it even has a Voice Guide to provide some audio feedback on the current workout progress too. Offers a little more independence compared to bringing a smartphone everywhere, I suppose.

I suppose at this point of time, everyone knows what’s VR and have some idea what Samsung Gear VR is. However just in case you don’t know – VR is virtual reality, and it offers full immersion in terms of visual. You’ll have to wear a headset to get that immersion, and hence the function of this Gear VR.

The latest Gear VR supports USB Type-C and Type-C ports, and supports smartphones from Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, S7, S7 Edge, and the Note 7.

Gear 360

It’s a strange time to be alive. If you want to enjoy recorded VR content instead of computer graphics, you’ll need some sort of 360-degree camera. That’s where the Samsung Gear 360 comes in. It has dual f/2.0 fisheye lenses with 15MP sensor each. It’s only compatible with Samsung’s 2015 and 2016 flagship smartphones though. That means the Galaxy S6/S7 family and Note 5/7 of devices only.
