On the 17th of January 2017, Samsung Malaysia Electronics announced its partnership with Maybank to bring them into the world of mobile payment service. Samsung Pay is by far one of the simplest and easiest cashless systems available in the market now, and Samsung claims that it’s secured yet accepted almost anywhere too.

Samsung Pay can be used at terminals that accept either MST or NFC payments, but you’ll need a compatible Samsung smartphone too. Here’s the list of compatible smartphones. Pretty wide range of smartphones, I must say.
- Galaxy Note5
- Galaxy S6 edge+
- Galaxy S7 & S7 edge
- Galaxy A5 & A7 (2016)
- Galaxy A5 & A7 (2017) | More details here; pre-order starts now till 22nd January 2017
It can currently be accessed by Maybank Visa cardholders as an exclusive early access program until 11th February 2017. Be one of 500 users to win RM100 cashback for every RM500 cumulatively spent via Samsung Pay – only available for Maybank customers.
While Maybank is the first bank to join in the Samsung Pay ecosystem, more banks are expected to join the bandwagon in the coming weeks.
It’s finally coming to fruition here in Malaysia – and I’m genuinely looking forward to it. I don’t have to count how much cash I have left in my wallet before buying something anymore.
