It’s been slightly more than a year since Huawei launched the P10. The Huawei P20 has been leaked out countless times, and now we finally get official information on everything we need to know about it.
Firstly, there are 2 main phones in the P20 series – the Huawei P20, and also the Huawei P20 Pro. The main difference between the Pro and non-pro version is the extra camera. Since dual-camera is today’s standard, the “extra” camera here is actually a 3rd camera. Yes – the Huawei P20 Pro has a total of 3 cameras.
Let’s not beat around the bush here. The Huawei P20 series of smartphones is an obvious iPhone X copycat. From the notch all the way to the vertically-stacked cameras at the back – it looks exactly the same – especially the Huawei P20 non-pro variant. To Huawei’s credit, at least their notch looks smaller than the iPhone X’s, and there’s a front-facing fingerprint scanner. Personally speaking, Huawei should’ve moved the fingerprint scanner behind instead.

Here comes the cameras. Leica makes a return once again. The Huawei P20 sports a 12MP RGB sensor with a f/1.8 lens, and another 20MP monochrome sensor with f/1.6 lens. The P20 Pro has triple cameras, bumps up the RGB sensor to 40MP with a f/1.8 lens and its monochrome sensor to 20MP with a f/1.6 lens. The third lens is an 8MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture with 5x hybrid zoom.
As for selfies, both the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro has a 24MP sensor with f/2.0 lens selfie camera.
The Huawei P20 Pro has a 5.8-inch 2244×1080 resolution LCD screen with 4GB RAM and 3,400mAh battery. The P20 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen with 2240×1080 resolution and OLED screen, comes with 6GB RAM and 4,000mAh battery. Both the P20 and P20 Pro are powered by the Huawei Kirin 970 chipset and Mali G72 MP12 graphics. Also comes with 128GB of internal storage.
Huawei also continues to implement AI to its cameras, as it is now using something called AIS. Instead of optical image stabilization (OIS) or electronic image stabilization (EIS), Huawei has their own technology that they’re calling it as AI Image Stabilization, or AIS.
As for the price, this is what we have now:
| Model | Version | EUR (includes tax) |
| Huawei P20 | 4GB RAM + 128GB storage | €649.00 |
| Huawei P20 Pro | 6GB RAM + 128GB storage | €899.00 |
The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro comes in this magnificent color too. Personally speaking, the Twilight color is fantastic. However, we do not know if Huawei Malaysia is bringing in this gorgeous color. Huawei Malaysia didn’t bring in the gorgeous Greenery color for the P10 last year, so I’m not surprised if the Twilight color isn’t available in Malaysia.
Also, what’s up with the naming scheme? We had P9 and then we had P10, and all of a sudden we have P20 instead of P11?
