It seems like OPPO is not stopping – they’re flooding the entry-level market with more cheap smartphones. Earlier this week, we’ve seen the the OPPO A71 that was priced at RM699. Now, they’re releasing the OPPO A71k – a variant of the A71. It’s seriously cheap.
Featuring a 5MP selfie camera with OPPO’s AI beauty technology, the OPPO A71k’s selfie camera also enables facial unlocking. You can also use a password to unlock. However, just like the OPPO A71, the OPPO A71k doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner.
As for the full list of specs, the OPPO A71k is quite a basic and just… overall entry-level smartphone.
- 5.2-inch screen 720p (presumably IPS LCD)
- MediaTek MT6750 chipset with octa-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage
- 13MP f/2.2 rear-facing camera
- 5MP f/2.4 selfie camera
- 3,000mAh battery
The OPPO A71k is priced at RM599 and it’s available in three color variants – gold, black, and blue. It is available in OPPO Concept Stores and OPPO Official Website.
Personally speaking, I’m not sure what’s the point for OPPO to release so many cheap smartphones to the market. Is OPPO repeating what HTC and Samsung had done in the past by flooding the market with smartphones? Yes, it does help with customer awareness of the brand name, but it does hurt the brand’s reputation in the long term.
I’m sure OPPO doesn’t want customers to associate the words “entry-level smartphone brand”. They’ve made great smartphone sin the past – like the OPPO R9s that we reviewed here. No idea why OPPO Malaysia didn’t bring in the R11, and now they’re bringing in a bunch of A-series of budget smartphones. The A71 and A71k are so cheap to the point where it doesn’t even have a fingerprint scanner. What year is this, 2013? What happened to OPPO’s lightning fast fingerprint unlocking?
For the price of RM599, there are a few alternatives out there too. We’ve taken a look at the Neffos C7 here, which I personally think is a better alternative. The specs are more or less similar, but the Neffos C7 has a fingerprint reader. It’s priced at RM599 too. It’s up to you on which you want to get – but I doubt OPPO will update the A71k ?
