I think at this point of time, everyone of us have heard the news that the US is banning Huawei Technologies entirely. Google, being a company from the US, is obligated to follow the laws and cut ties with Huawei, hence the original story. The latest development in this ban is ARM. From official announcements, Huawei said that their backup plan is to migrate away from Android and use HongMeng OS but there are no details about HongMeng OS other than the name itself.
All in all, Huawei now has to develop both hardware and software from the ground up within a short period of time while being able to compete with the big boys, without infringing any intellectual properties. That is a really tough miracle to pull off – or perhaps Huawei’s backup plan foresaw ARM’s departure too.
