ROG announced a partnership with ACRONYM to bring us the special edition Zephyrus G14. Of course, it blends both unique design alongside with powerful hardware to create this special edition – though its uniqueness is polarizing for some.
The ACRONYM special edition Zephyrus G14 brings a radically new vision for what and how technology can be. Its design follows Errolson Hugh’s vision for a more empowered user: not just a gamer, but a thinker and a creator.
Errolson Hugh is ACRONYM’s co-founder and has been in the industry since the company’s founding in 1993. Since then, ACRONYM has designed for many different brands like Nike, Arc’Teryx, virtual video game gear for Square Enix/EIDOS, or creating clothing for their own catalog.
As for the ROG Zephyrus G14, Hugh says:
We try to break the expected relationship with a product to make the user feel more aware of the product as a tool, and make them more active and engaged with it. It’s too easy to become complacent toward the technology we use and let into our lives, and that can make us passive recipients of information, and thus less creative and less empowered.
Hugh also brought in long-time collaborator, designer David Rudnick, whose studio, Terrain, is sought-after by industry leaders in fashion, music and the arts for their visionary approach to building visual systems that require a completely original aesthetic.
And this is what we got. Officially named the ROG ZEPHYRUS G14 ACRNM RMT01, it is built with a few distinct visual differences from the usual G14 design. It has custom materials, etching, machining, specially developed paints, and two completely original typefaces to bring ACRONYM’s vision to life.
With the Zephyrus G14’s iconic AniMe Matrix feature, ACRONYM also took note and custom-designed 8 more custom designs that are exclusively made for this laptop.
Not only that… the laptop comes with a uniquely designed ACRONYM Airpak laptop sleeve. Yes, that air cushion bag is also custom-designed.
