Yes – it’s that time of the year again and now we have the brand new iPhone 11 series of smartphones. Following last year’s tradition, there are a total of 3 different iPhones now – we have the basic iPhone 11, then comes the iPhone 11 Pro, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

First of all, thank you Apple for fixing your naming scheme. The Xr, Xs, and Xs Max was confusing AF, and this new naming scheme is just cleaner and easier to say overall.

Now, let’s talk about the new iPhone 11. It is the successor of the iPhone Xr that many people bought last year, but has some similarities. It still has the same 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display with the same 1792×828 pixels of resolution. Even the size and shape is the same as before.

But the hardware has changed. It is upgraded to the new Apple A13 Bionic chipset which has the fastest CPU and GPU performance to date, and coupled with the new Apple Arcade – it seems to be able to provide a great gaming experience overall.

Then come the cameras. The leaks of the camera layout on the iPhone 11 is true. There are two cameras on the iPhone 11:

  • Main: 12MP f/1.8; 26mm with PDAF & OIS
  • Ultrawide: 12MP f/2.4; 13mm with 120° angle

There are a couple of main highlights for the iPhone 11’s cameras – namely the ability to capture 4K 60fps videos and also the dedicated night mode.

Despite praising Apple for its new naming scheme, I think that the “Pro Max” moniker could’ve been better – but what the heck, it’s better than “Xs Max”. Anyway, the new iPhone 11 Pro gets the name “Pro” because of its triple rear-facing camera setup with careful engineering done on the cameras.

  • Main: 12MP f/1.8; 26mm with PDAF & OIS
  • Ultrawide: 12MP f/2.4; 13mm with 120° angle
  • Telephoto: 12MP f/2.0; 52mm with OIS

The cameras this time around has a few tricks up its sleeve. Deep Fusion is a feature that they showed off and it impressed me a lot. It takes many pictures before the shutter button is pressed. After the button is pressed, it takes just a second to stitch together a high-resolution image with HDR combined. That’s impressive!

Then, of course, I can’t forget about the capabilities of the new integration with Filmic Pro. Apple seems to have created a brand new ISP (image signal processor) for its cameras and integrated with Filmic Pro so that you capture a single video with few different cameras at the same time!

Imagine recording the video with your main camera and the ultrawide angle camera together. Maybe selfie and the telephoto camera together?

Also, the new iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with the 18W fast charging in the box itself!

Surprisingly, the iPhone 11 series of smartphones don’t stray far away in terms of prices. The iPhone 11 starts at an affordable price of $699.
