Since the ASUS Zenfone 8 series was announced a few weeks ago, many people were already asking – where and when can we buy the new Zenfone 8 series of smartphones? The answer is – really soon.
As you know, there are two phones within the Zenfone 8 series. We have the new compact flagship phone – the Zenfone 8 – and also the Zenfone 8 Flip which is a continuation of ASUS’s signature rotating camera.
They both come with more or less the same specs, so let’s talk about the Zenfone 8 first.
Zenfone 8
As for the specs, here they are:
- 5.9-inch AMOLED screen (made by Samsung)
- 2400×1080 pixels in resolution
- 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset
- Up to 16GB RAM
- Up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage
- Dual rear-facing cameras
- Main: 64MP f/1.8 with PDAF; OIS
- Ultrawide angle: 12MP f/2.2 with dual-pixel PDAF
- Selfie camera: 12MP f/2.5 with dual-pixel PDAF
- 4,000mAh battery
- Supports up to 30W charging via USB-PD
- 30W charger included in the box
- ZenUI 8 with Android 11
There’s really nothing to complain about the Zenfone 8, really. We have already reviewed it here, by the way. Throughout our usage, the Zenfone 8 performs amazingly well not just in terms of raw gaming performance, but its cameras are fantastic too.

Zenfone 8 Flip
The new Zenfone 8 Flip is the continuation of the signature rotating cameras whereby it is motorized and can rotate the rear-facing camera upwards to become a front-facing camera, or anything in between!
As for the specs, it is very similar to the Zenfone 8:
- 6.67-inch AMOLED (made by Samsung)
- 2400×1080 pixels in resolution
- 90Hz refresh rate, 200Hz touch sampling rate
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 64MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Ultrawide angle: 12MP f/2.2 with dual-pixel PDAF
- Telephoto: 8MP f/2.4, 3x optical zoom; PDAF
- 5,000mAh battery
- Supports up to 30W charging via USB-PD
- 30W charger included in the box
- ZenUI 8 with Android 11
As you can see, there are a few key differences between the two phones. The Zenfone 8 Flip doesn’t have OIS which might be an issue for many people. Personally, I think it’s a weird choice to neglect OIS on a phone like this – but I guess the “true flagship” is the Zenfone 8.
