Over the course of the last two weeks or so, we saw that ASUS Malaysia themselves have been teasing the phone already. We also saw leaks that ASUS will have two models in the upcoming ZenFone Max series – and that’s the ZenFone Max (M2) and also the ZenFone Max Pro (M2).
We all know for sure that the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M2) is coming since the hashtag used in ASUS Malaysia’s Facebook Page is indeed showing ZenFone Max Pro M2 – and giving Xiaomi a little roast while they’re at it.
As the regional launch date – 11th December – draws near, ASUS will need to send their device to SIRIM for certification – and that’s exactly what they did. Today at SIRIM’s online database, we found out that ASUS Malaysia will be bringing both the ZenFone Max (M2) ZB633KL and also the ZenFone Max Pro (M2 )ZB631KL. Yes – the higher model number is for the non-Pro version, whereas the lower model number is for the Pro version.
Both these phones were recently certified for SIRIM and from here, we identified a one major information about the upcoming ZenFone Max (M2) and the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) – and that is the lack of 802.11ac WiFi.
Without 802.11ac WiFi, you cannot fully utilize the speeds that Unifi Turbo has bestowed upon us. Learn more about it here.
In their defense, this might be a cost-cutting decision to keep the retail price low for both the ZenFone Max (M2) and ZenFone Max Pro (M2). Also, ASUS has been teasing a few other aspects of the upcoming ZenFone Maxes as well – 5,000mAh battery and also 3-axis EIS. It also has a notched display – which I really hope they’re using the same display as the ZenFone 5 that we reviewed here.
We can’t exactly confirm the specs of both the ZenFone Max (M2) and the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) yet, but we’ll surely update you when we have more information.
