The launch of the Black Shark 3 has definitely spiced up the gaming smartphone market. It brought the latest specs alongside some gaming-centric smartphone features at a rather interesting price point.
And the wait is finally over for hardcore gamers as the Black Shark 3 Pro has arrived in Malaysia. The physical Master Trigger buttons stand out from the rest of the competition against others like ROG Phone’s AirTriggers, which is touch-based.
Here’s a quick refresh on the specs of the Black Shark 3 Pro:
- 7.1-inch AMOLED screen
- 90Hz refresh rate
- 1440p resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset
- Up to 12GB RAM
- Up to 512GB storage
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- Main: 64MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Ultra-wide angle: 13MP f/2.3
- Depth sensor
- 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera
- 5,000mAh battery
- 65W wired charging
- 18W magnetic charging
Comparing the Black Shark 3 Pro and the Black Shark 3, the only notable difference in terms of specs is the screen itself – larger screen with higher resolution and also higher refresh rate.
If you want to know more about Black Shark 3, we reviewed it not to long ago here. Essentially, it’s a decent gaming smartphone overall – but we suggested to hold off the purchase and see what’s the price of the Black Shark 3 Pro first.
Released alongside the Black Shark 3 Pro is the Black Shark Bluetooth Earphones 2, a neckband. It 14 hours battery that can be charged in 90 minutes, Knowles audio driver just like the Edifier TWS6 that we reviewed here, and weighing at 22g.
Neckbands generally have lower delay compared to TWS since it doesn’t need to sync the audio between two sides wirelessly.
But while it might be subjective, I personally do not see it being the savior of wireless audio for gaming, particularly timing-intense one like rhythm games. And until now, no one in the market could truly solve the wireless audio delay issue, at least not at the consumer level.
The champion for lowest wireless audio delay is still the aptX LL codec, which is unfortunately not natively available to any smartphones in the market. We’ll need a separate receiver/transmitter to enjoy aptX LL.
