CelcomDigi Highlights Responsible AI Governance and ESG Progress at Responsible Business Day 2026 1

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into business operations and digital services, companies face growing responsibilities over how they handle data, maintain accountability and manage the wider impact of technological growth. For telecommunications providers, these decisions are particularly important as they operate the infrastructure and services that millions of people rely on daily.

Themed ‘Responsibility in the Age of AI’, this year’s forum also marked the second year of CelcomDigi’s five-year ESG strategy, which aims to build a more inclusive, sustainable and trusted digital society. The company shared updates on its progress across customer protection, supplier standards, AI governance, network efficiency and energy consumption.

The event featured speakers from HELP University, Christopher & Lee Ong, the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute, CrowdStrike, Catalyze Transition and Mondelēz Malaysia, alongside CelcomDigi leaders. Discussions covered human oversight of AI, responsible data use, cybersecurity resilience and the growing energy demands of digital infrastructure.

Beyond the discussions, CelcomDigi outlined progress across its four ESG priorities, highlighting several initiatives and measurable results from its ongoing strategy.

  • Inclusive and Safe Digital Access: Flagged approximately 260 million suspected scam calls and blocks 22 million SMS messages every month. Its public awareness efforts also include Online Safety IRL 2.0, which recorded 22.3 million views and a cumulative reach of 18.3 million.
  • Sustainable Value Chain: Remains on track to fulfil its annual commitments of 25,000 training hours and 800 supplier inspections, aimed at strengthening workplace safety and responsible business practices across its supply chain.
  • Governance and Performance Culture: Introduced a company-wide Responsible AI Governance Framework to establish standards for AI adoption, transparency and accountability, including areas where regulatory requirements are still evolving. It also conducts business continuity exercises, crisis simulations, and disaster recovery testing to strengthen operational resilience.
  • Environmental Impact and Action: Reduced emissions from its operations and purchased electricity by 3.95% between 2024 and 2025. More than 15,000 network sites now feature energy-saving capabilities, while emissions per terabyte of data used fell by 30% between 2023 and 2025.

Through these initiatives and continued collaboration with organisations across different sectors, CelcomDigi aims to strengthen its responsible business practices while supporting a safer, more inclusive and resilient digital society. As AI adoption accelerates, maintaining public trust and ensuring businesses remain accountable will be just as important as the technology itself.
