Cooler Master is venturing into the world of analog keyboard switches with their partnership with Aimpad. Firstly, we’re shown the Cooler Master MK851 keyboard that features Cherry MX Red with Aimpad technology. Now, Cooler Master is releasing a 24-key keypad that is made entirely out of linear mechanical keyboard switches with Aimpad technology built in.
So what is Aimpad and how it works? In short, it shoots a ray of infrared onto the switch and depending on how far you press the key down, the intensity of the reflected infrared light differs and hence translated as “pressure”. You can learn more about Aimpad technology and its limitations at our partner’s website. There’s also another type of analog switch called Flaretech which you can check out here.

There’s one limitation when it comes to “pressure”-sensitive key switches including Aimpad – and that’s the key switch type can only be linear. A non-linear key switch like Cherry MX Brown or Blue will cause the pressure to change drastically once it hits the bump.
Cooler Master is offering the ControlPad in two different types of switches – Cherry MX Red or Gateron Red switches. Both of them have Aimpad technology, all of the 24 keys are fully programmable as well.
Second type of user is the creative professionals. By using the ControlPad, you can adjust brush thickness, opacity, and size on the fly with the pressure-sensitive keys. Also, since it is a 24-key keypad, you can program each of these keys to perform certain actions or even macros.
Cooler Master implemented macro presets and control schemes for several notable video games and popular applications for consumer and professional use. This includes actions, hotkeys, and shortcuts for the entire Adobe Suite, including PhotoShop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, and more. Additionally, Cooler Master will offer special keycap sets to match said presets.
