A study from Dell Technologies has revealed lots of organizations are shifting into high gear to turbo up their digital transformation programs resulting in higher Digital Transformation Index (DT Index) values, measured just in time during the mist of COVID-19.

Digital Transformation Index

In one of the first global studies to measure business behavior as a result of the pandemic, the 2020 DT Index found that 8 in 10 organizations have fast-tracked some digital transformation programs this year and 79% are re-inventing their business model – which locally, even Al-Ikhsan did an overnight transformation from an offline to an online retailer. For your information, the survey was participated by 4300 business leaders from mid-size to enterprise companies across 18 countries so it is statistically plausible at the very least.

Even though COVID-19 has pushed companies to focus on developing their IT infrastructure, there are still some barriers that hinder a successful digital transformation such as data privacy and cybersecurity concerns, lack of budget and resources, and the inability to extract insights from data and information. Thanks to the disruption caused by the pandemic, businesses have started to invest in several IT categories at once and among the vast range of sectors, cybersecurity, data management, 5G, privacy, and multi-cloud and AI are the most popular invested areas.

For emerging technologies, most respondents are looking forward upon Augmented Reality (AR) to learn how to do or fix things in an instant without physical drawbacks, AI and data models to predict future disruptions and distributed ledgers such as blockchain will make the gig economy fairer. However, only around 16 to 32% on them are planning or intended to invest in them in the next one to three years, possibly due to the barriers mentioned just now.
