DJI has announced the newly rebranded but familiar Ronin series camera gimbal, and we’re getting two new gimbals – RS 2 and RSC 2. Both these gimbals offer the filmmaking and content creation community a professional-grade and robust solution for bulky or lightweight camera setups.
DJI RS 2
The DJI RS 2 is the more heavy-duty version out of the 2 as it incorporates carbon fiber in vital structural components to keep its weight down to 1.3 kg while being super durable. Compared to previous models, this one can now support dynamic payloads of 4.5kg that enables creators to deploy heavier camera/lens combination for clearer footage while still achieving up to 12 hours of battery life. To handle urgent situations, the quick-charge function allows a 15-minute charge to sustain for an extra 2 hours.
The high customizability is why the film industry favors RS 2.
Vital features and functions can now be controlled and adjusted over long distances with the Ronin app such as gimbal movement using the virtual joystick and Force Mobile, where the gimbal mimics the mobile device’s movement. For solo operators using manual-focus lenses, the 3D Focus System uses state-of-the-art TOF sensors mounted above the camera to provide autofocus. This enables a single shooter to capture smooth and cinematic footage using a manual lens, without relying on a second camera operator or focus puller.
DJI Care Refresh
The DJI Care Refresh is available for both DJI RSC 2 and RS 2. For those who don’t know, it is a premium service that for a fee, it provides comprehensive coverage as well as up to two replacement units within one year. The 2-Year plan provides 3 replacement units in 2 years and extends the original warranty period by one more year. Other notable features include international warranty services, VIP after-sales support, and free two-way shipping with an even quicker speed with DJI Care Refresh Express. You can find out about the service here.
