Since its announcement sometime last year, Samsung is determined that the Galaxy Note7 will be the next big thing. In a way, it did – but only because of its battery’s explosion. The Galaxy Note7 exploding battery is no joke at all – and many people tried to debunk this mystery themselves. It’s been quite some time now, and Samsung’s official statement.
We all know that both the original and the replaced batteries were catching in flames – but what we didn’t know is that they’re two separate phenomena. The original battery, dubbed as Battery A by Samsung, is due to its electrodes incorrectly positioned and thus shorting the battery.

As for the replacement battery, dubbed as Battery B, shorted the phone out because of an “abnormal weld spot”, which caused it to puncture itself and again, going up in flames.

So what did Samsung plan to learn from this major fiasco? They’ve developed an extensive battery quality assurance and safety check procedure called the “8-Point Battery Safety Check”, which as the name suggests, has a total of 8 different steps to ensure the quality of the battery.
A short summary of that happened here – the Galaxy Note7 exploding battery is caused by its circuits shorting out, but no specifics were known. They then had a battery replacement program, hoping that it would solve the issue – which we know, it did not. By the time we all know that its replacement batteries were also exploding, most people gave up trying to solve the mystery. Samsung then quickly took the initiative to halt all production and sales of the Note7, and then further offered full refunds to all Note7 customers.
I have to commend Samsung for the amount of things they actually did over the course of these few months. Samsung’s clear, concise, quick to response, and very transparent regarding the entire issue.
Let’s just hope that no other smartphone companies will repeat this mistake ever again.
