We all want to take fantastic looking pictures. That’s why smartphone cameras have been improving by the day. The HONOR 20 is the company’s first ever smartphone with quadruple cameras too, and we have to say, this phone can take some of the best-looking pictures I’ve ever seen. Hear us out here as we are going to show you the pictures and how you can do the same.
But first, here is the quadruple rear-facing cameras on the HONOR 20:
- Ultrawide angle: 20MP f/2.2 with PDAF
- Main: 48MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Macro: 2MP f/2.4 fixed focus
- Depth sensor
Choosing the right modes
Having 4 cameras do not mean anything without proper software. That is why HONOR has special camera modes to cater to specific moments. Combined with the multiple cameras for different scenarios, we are here to show you how the HONOR 20 is able to take stunning photos in many situations.
We’re going to focus on a total of 3 different modes here. To take the full advantage of the HONOR 20, we took all pictures shown here with a mini tripod:
- Normal picture mode
- 48MP AI Ultra Clarity mode – for daylight & indoors
- Night mode – for dark scenarios (obviously)
- Pro mode (also known as manual mode)
Between these modes, we have only two criteria: if we can adjust the settings, we’ll use the lowest ISO possible and the shutter speed is in auto.
Daylight test: 48MP AI Ultra Clarity mode vs Pro mode
Being someone who uses DSLRs a lot, we’re very familiar with how Pro mode works. However, we do appreciate an “easy mode” some times. Kind of like cheating, but no really. That’s where the 48MP AI Ultra Clarity comes in.
It takes a 48MP high-resolution picture with crisp clear details and beautiful colors mean that every shot is now wallpaper-worthy. Take a look at the comparison below.
This set is a little funny. We went indoors and then the shutter speed is really difficult to nail down. Thankfully since we have a tripod, we are able to prolong the shutter speed to however long we want.
Subjectively, images taken by both modes look great. However, the dynamic range and the colors on 48MP AI Ultra Clarity mode is much nicer – and that will be a recurring thing for the Ultra Clarity mode.
Night test: Night mode vs Pro mode
When there is no light, the night mode is the one to use. Surprisingly, there is an option to select the ISO and shutter speed here. As mentioned earlier, we are only changing the ISO.
Here are the images that were taken with the HONOR 20 in Pro and night mode.
Set 1 – pitch black while aiming at trees.
Set 2 – cityscape
Set 3 – cityscape v2
We just realized that hey – you can use night mode with the ultrawide angle camera. So let’s do just that!
Choosing the right camera(s)
Framing your shots is an important aspect of photography. Composition makes a photo look either absolutely relaxing to see, or outright weird. To make this easy, just switch between the cameras on the HONOR 20 to make your picture look absolutely 👌 on fleek 👌.
The ability to have a depth sensor, a macro camera, and an ultrawide angle camera means that you have many different ways to take pictures. Depth sensor gives a nicer portrait mode, whereby the ultrawide angle gives you an impressive view of the scene.
The macro camera on a smartphone is new and piqued my interest the most. The 4cm focal length that the macro camera has meant that my close-ups are really up close and personal. These elements are so tiny that even my eyes can’t see them.
Experiment with the settings
With great software means great controls. I like my pictures brighter but everyone has their own unique taste. The camera software here allows that flexibility, so go out and start shooting to see what you like the most.
Looking back at all the pictures I took with the HONOR 20, just say “wow“. I’m shocked by my own doing. The pictures turned out way beyond my expectations. The ease of use of the camera means that you can take beautiful pictures with any tripod or stabilization available.
The multiple modes available mean that there is a proper mode for any situation, and using the proper mode yields magnificent pictures. Just look at what we’ve shown above!
With the recent lift on HONOR’s ban mean that all HONOR smartphones will continue to be able to use Google’s services. If you’re thinking of getting a brand new smartphone, this is the perfect time to consider the HONOR 20. Starts at RM1,699.
