The Honor 8 is launched a little less than a year ago – and it remained my favorite smartphone for a long time, until it got updated to Nougat and all hell broke loose. Now comes the all-new refreshed iteration, the Honor 8 Pro. What’s so different, actually?

Well, for starters, the Honor 8 Pro is now has a humongous 5.7-inch with 2560×1440 resolution with an LTPS IPS LCD panel. The chipset has also been updated to what Huawei is currently offering in the P10 and Mate 9 series – the Kirin 960. Sporting a Cortex-A57 quad-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and another Cortex-A53 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz, the Honor 8 Pro is definitely aimed at power savings. To top it all off, the Honor 8 Pro is equipped with a 4,000mAh battery – which is definitely not the largest we’ve seen for a smartphone of this size. Hint: the ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom takes the award for best battery life.

As for the camera, it’s not much different from the previous Honor 8, actually. Still the dual 12MP camera wth aperture of f/2.2. The selfie camera did get a slight improvement as it now has a f/2.0 lens instead. This time however, the did up the storage to 64GB, and has an option to opt for 4GB RAM or 6GB RAM variants.

In terms of aesthetics, there isn’t much difference from the original version, to be honest.

Then comes the most interesting part – the Honor 8 Pro has an exclusive partnership for the 2017 Mobile Legends South East Asia Cup in Malaysia, and the Honor 8 Pro will be the official gaming phone for the tournament. It’s very ironic, as Mobile Legends was sued on the same day the Honor 8 Pro was launched. ?

Anyway, the Honor 8 Pro is available now at a retail price of RM1,999. A rather hefty price, to be honest.
