HTC is still alive and kicking! We know that the team that made the Google Pixel was acquired by Google themselves, but that didn’t stop HTC from continuing their spirit in making great smartphones. This is the brand new HTC U12+, their brand new flagship.
Let’s start off with what’s new on the HTC U12+:
- HTC Edge Sense 2: New touch feedback mechanism to provide an even easier and more intuitive way to interact with the phone. The new Edge Sense knows what hand you’re using the phone – so you can have one-handed freedom to double tap to navigate the device, hold to lock screen orientation, or squeeze to take photos and videos, zooming in on maps, and “virtually any interaction”.
- New UltraSpeed Autofocus 2 that uses full sensor PDAF and also a laser focus to ensure your pictures are sharp (reminds me of TriTech autofocus on ASUS ZenFone 3 series), HDR Boost 2, and the ability to have 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.
- Sonic Zoom where you can “zoom” into a sound or voice, together with a one-touch auto zoom
- HTC BoomSound, USonic, and Qualcomm® aptX HD audio to provide incredible sound with louder-than-ever BoomSound speakers. USonic earbuds has Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to keep out unwanted distractions. For wireless audio that goes way beyond expectations, aptX HD is designed to support high resolution 24-bit Bluetooth audio. Learn more about aptX here.
As for the specs, the HTC U12+ is obviously a flagship smartphone. Hence, it needs to have the best of the best hardware. By the looks of it, HTC didn’t disappoint us.

From the looks of it, the HTC U12+ is definitely up against some tough competition. If the HTC U12+ isn’t more or less around the Huawei P20 (review here) and P20 Pro’s price, then it’ll definitely be tough to entice customers to get the U12+. The U12+ does have a selling point though – it’s IP68 rated and it has the unique Edge Sense 2.
In whichever case, we’ll have to wait until the end of June to know what’s the price. Also, it seems like the HTC U12+ will only available in Translucent Blue. And yes, as the name implies, you can see the innards of the phone.
