Today marks the first day of Ramadhan and Instagram wants to celebrate Ramadhan with all of its fellow users by releasing the new filter called Lantern to Instagram Stories.

This new filter is now accessible only via Instagram Stories and it offers a unique look. The Lantern filter brings out a peach-orange tone with crescent moons that are made out of stars while adding a tinge of bokeh to the image.

Inspired by the ornamental arabesque design style, the crescent moons are made out of shapes and textures used are traditionally associated with Ramadan. Since it is a multi-layered filter, you can tap on the screen to switch from a traditional crescent design effect to English or Arabic Ramadhan greetings.

Instagram Ramadhan #MonthOfGood

The Lantern filter is a part of Instagram’s first ever Ramadhan campaign that they are calling it the #MonthOfGood. There are lots of negativity that is flying around the air these days and for the month of Ramadhan, Instagram is calling on the global community to celebrate and share kindness on its platform.

According to Instagram, last year from 16th May to 14th June 2018, there were over 15 million posts about Ramadhan. During this holy month, keywords that are associated with kindness and good deeds rose up significantly in terms of usage. For Malaysia alone, posts with the usage of the word “generosity” rose up by over 30%.

If you don’t see the Lantern filter on your Instagram Stories, be sure to update the Instagram app to the latest version first. Also remember to #MonthOfGood!
