realme Malaysia just announced the arrival of two new smartphones in the market – the realme 5 Pro and also the realme 5. These two smartphones are vastly different from each other, but they share some similarities.
The realme 5 Pro is priced at RM1,099 whereby the realme 5 starts at RM599.
realme 5 Pro
Let’s first talk about the realme 5 Pro. This phone is actually pretty fantastic on its own as it comes with pretty beefy specs:
- 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with 2340×1080 pixels in resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset
- Adreno 616 GPU
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB internal storage (expandable with microSD)
- Quadruple rear-facing cameras
- Ultrawide angle: 8MP f/2.2
- Main: 48MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Depth sensor
- Macro: 2MP f/2.4
- 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera
- 4,035mAh battery
- Fast charging with 20W VOOC charger
- Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6
Honestly speaking, I’m rather surprised that realme stuck with the tradition of having VOOC chargers included with their “Pro” variant of smartphones. I also like the fact that realme has moved away from micro USB cables in favor of the almighty USB-C! 👏
We also did an unboxing for the realme 5 Pro, which you can watch here.
From the video above, you can also see the diamond cut design at the back. It’s pretty beautiful, to say the least.
We’re only getting one configuration – 8GB RAM with 128GB of storage, and the price is at only RM1,099. That is SUPER competitive!
realme 5
Then comes the realme 5. This smartphone comes with this list of specs:
- 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with 16000×720 pixels in resolution
- Waterdrop notch
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset
- 4GB RAM
- 128GB of internal storage (expandable with microSD card)
- Quadruple rear-facing cameras
- Ultrawide-angle: 8MP f/2.2
- Main: 12MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Depth sensor
- Macro: 2MP f/2.4
- 13MP f/2.0 selfie camera
- 5,000mAh battery
- Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6
With this list of specs, it’s a pretty big leap from its predecessor as it leaps back to Snapdragon chipsets. Moreover, that 5,000mAh battery is certainly a big highlight here as no one ever complains about having a larger battery on a smartphone.
Of course, we also did an unboxing video for the realme 5. Surprisingly, the realme 5 also has that diamond facade design like its “pro” brethren.
The realme 5 price starts at RM599 and comes with two different configurations:
- 3GB RAM + 64GB storage @ RM599
- 4GB RAM + 128GB storage @ RM799
What do you think of these smartphones? We’ve been using these two smartphones for quite some time now and our review is coming soon. Gotta say, these two are compelling smartphones for its price points.
