Today is the exciting day as Samsung just announced the brand new Galaxy S20 series of devices. After months of leaks, it is finally here and we now know its specs and its capabilities. And here are the information that we have right now.
The new Samsung Galaxy S20 series will have have a total of 3 devices – like the Galaxy S10 series – but with a different naming scheme. There is the Galaxy S20, the S20+, and also the S20 Ultra. This big leap of a number is because there is a new generation in connectivity as 5G is starting to be adopted widely.
The Galaxy S20 series of smartphones are available in 5G variants too. Both the Galaxy S20+ and the Galaxy S20 Ultra also support both sub-6 and mmWave bands, while the Galaxy S20 supports sub-6 only. All the three phones within the Galaxy S20 lineup support non-standalone and standalone 5G networks.
Another major highlight that was teased and leaked for months was its cameras. Since Xiaomi was the first company that is using Samsung’s 64MP GW1 and 108MP HMX sensors, we all know that Samsung is going to up the ante on their own flagship smartphone – and here it is. These 3 Galaxy S20 phones have different main camera sensors:
- Galaxy S20: 48MP
- Galaxy S20+: 64MP
- Galaxy S20 Ultra: 108MP
The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ are both capable of zooming up to 30x, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra has 100x zoom. That’s why it has the phrase “space zoom” at the camera hump.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra also has something called nona-binning. It technically pixel-binning and it combines 9 pixels into 1, resulting in a 12MP picture. Of course, there is an option to choose to take 108MP pictures too.
The new Galaxy S20 series can also take 8K videos, which I am honestly surprised to know. Currently, there are only a handful of 8K TVs, and this phone is able to capture 8K videos already. We’ve experienced gaming on an 8K TV by Samsung too, by the way.
Of course, the Galaxy S20 series has the crazy new Super Steady OIS system that we have seen on the Galaxy S10 Lite a month ago.
Samsung also partnered with Netflix so that renowned directors can capture bonus content with the Galaxy S20.
Another key highlight is that the Galaxy S20 series also comes with a 120Hz display for the highest possible refresh rate on a smartphone yet. It is also surprising that Samsung is partnering with Microsoft to bring Forza Street to the Galaxy Store. This is a beautiful game that is ported over to Android, exclusive for Samsung smartphones. It’s just mindboggling to know how powerful the Galaxy S20 series of smartphones really are.
The Galaxy S20 series will be available in these colors:
- Galaxy S20: Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud Pink
- Galaxy S20+: Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cosmic Black
- Galaxy S20 Ultra: Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Black
