On the 7th of April, Radio Free Sarawak and Radio Free Malaysia were jammed with their website inaccessible due to cyberattacks, says its founder. As both of it are broadcasted in London on short-wave frequencies and available to be streamed through the internet via Soundcloud, founder Clare Rewcastle-Brown states that :

“There have been attempts at broadcast interference on both radio stations by jamming from different parts of the world over the past few days. These have had limited success so far and we have been working on tracing the perpetrators”

This attack isn’t exactly on a small scale and must have gotten help, given that the attack was launched all at once throughout the entire yesterday, mainly from the US and Malaysia and had to be closed down.

Another website that was attacked similarly was The Sarawak Report, also founded by Rewcastle-Brown.

More on what Rewcastle-Brown said :

“The BN is throwing in very large sums of money to suppress our voice, but all the BN is doing is demonstrating to the world that its pretence of holding a democratic, free and fair election is a sham.”

“If these two radio stations are doing nothing else, they are showing Malaysia’s BN coalition for what it really is to the rest of the world.”

The websites are already back up now and ready for the people again.

It’s tragic however, to see such a thing happen. Conspiracies – be prepared for it to spring up, though what Rewcastle-Brown said is pretty much what can be concluded now, as the traffic did come from Malaysia too. What do you think?
