MWc2017 is a big place to be, and Wiko is definitely making a dent there too. They’ve announced quite a few things – firstly, the Wiko U Pulse, a unique Wiko “sound identity” which I think is really cool, and their expansion to more countries. Let’s start off.
Wiko U Pulse
The Wiko U Pulse is a smartphone that is claimed to be for urbanites. It’s a smartphone with a 5.5-inch IPS display with what I presume to be 720p resolution, and with a super-bright 500 nits brightness. Even has that sleek 2.5D curved glass at the edges too.
The cameras are something that Wiko didn’t skimp out on, as the Wiko U Pulse features a 13MP rear-facing camera that has a mode to create a 52MP photo – just like what we’ve seen on many ASUS smartphones and the OPPO R9s. This is obviously a great feature, as even I find myself tend to play around with it quite a lot. Also, there’s an auto-scene detection mode that automagically selects the right settings for your shots.
As for the selfie camera, the Wiko U Pulse has a 8MP real-time Artistic Blue portrait and live filters. There’s also another mode to create Time Lapse video with either the front or rear camera too, which I think is rather unique. Think about it this way – YouTube makeup tutorial time lapse recording with the Wiko U Pulse.
For the raw guts, the Wiko U Pulse features a quad-core 1.3GHz with undisclosed chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage which is expandable up to an additional 128GB via microSD card, and a 3,000mAh battery. Comes with Android 7.0 Nougat too.
The Wiko U Play will be available in a total of 3 colors and each with brushed metal finish – Anthracite (essentially deep black), Silver, and Rose Gold starting in May 2017 depending on countries. The recommended price is at 199 EUR, which I presume to be about ~RM1k.
Wiko Sound Identity
This is certainly something unique from Wiko themselves, as they’ve partnered with famous French artist/YouTube influencer, PV Nova, and renowned audio branding agency, Sixième Son and created a series of YouTube videos on how to create a ringtone. Personally, I find them quite funny and it has its own characteristics.

Expansion to more countries
This is a fairly straightforward piece of news. Wiko is opening in Jalan, Egypt, and Greece. They’ve entered each of these countries with something special, of course. For Japan, they have the Wiko Tommy, a super-colourful smartphone that will be available at retailers. For Egypt, Wiko got a partnership with Jovi Tronix, a leading local distributor for consumer electronics. As for Greece, Wiko announces a whole range of smartphones for them – starting with the Ufeel and the entire colourful Y-range of Wiko smartphones that consists of the Sunny, Jerry, Lenny, Robby, Freddy, and Tommy.
