I’ve been using the Galaxy S10 for a few months now and I honestly love that phone. When the Galaxy Note10 series was released not too long ago, there were a lot of new features that were exclusive only for the Note10 series.
Following Samsung’s tradition, the features exclusive for the Galaxy Note series will be translated to the S series a few months later. This year, Samsung amped it up and brought new updates to their flagship smartphones every month. That means the new Galaxy Note features arriving to the Galaxy S series a lot faster.
For more ideas on how these new features work, watch our Galaxy Note10+ review video here.
Since September 26th, Malaysians can already get the update and try out all the features right away. There are three features in particular that stood out above the rest – AR Doodle, Live Focus Video, and also Samsung DeX for PC and Mac.
Since we reviewed the Galaxy Note10+ here, we know that it has another 3D TOF sensor. However, Samsung underutilized that sensor. Both the AR Doodle and Live Focus Video can be done on the basic Galaxy Note10, which does not have the 3D TOF camera. Hence, translating this feature to the S10 is rather straightforward.
We honestly had more fun using AR Doodle. It’s just fun to write words and doodle around in 3D space – literally mixing realities together.
Then comes Samsung DeX on desktop. This literally breathed new life to my 6-year old MacBook Air as I can now use it as a “proxy”. It’s rather easy to run the Samsung DeX on a low-powered laptop – and especially useful since the phone can co-work with my laptop in synergy. The best way to describe this is “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
Other features also made its way to the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, like Link to Windows integration. I personally tried it and the best use that came out of it is the ease of picture copying from the phone to my PC. You can also see your notifications on your Windows PC but that’s essentially what it can do.
